The 2021 Tour de France \u0160koda Green Jersey winner will stay with the wolfpack till the end of 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Team boss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingweekly.com\/news\/mark-cavendish-agrees-contract-extension-terms-with-deceuninck-quick-step\">Patrick Lefevere claimed<\/a> that the lengthy negotiations were caused by salary demands and Cavendish\u2019s desire to continue in another role in the team after he stops racing.<\/p>\n<p>Cavendish re-joined his old team at the beginning of 2021 on a basic salary, which was paid for by an outside sponsor. The team took a gamble taking him in after three winless years. However, since re-joining the team, the Manxman won, among others, four stages at the Tour de France, claiming the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welovecycling.com\/wide\/2021\/07\/19\/mark-cavendish-wins-the-skoda-green-jersey-and-other-cool-news-from-the-world-of-cycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u0160koda Green Jersey<\/a> in the process and equalling Eddy Merckx\u2019s record for most stage wins at the French Grand Tour.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-controller-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Winner of the iconic green jersey and four Tour de France stages this year, when he took his tally to 34 victories and equaled a 46-year-old record, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarkCavendish?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MarkCavendish<\/a> has signed a new contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheWolfpack?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheWolfpack<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/05584SRAke\">https:\/\/t.co\/05584SRAke<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lQzSQ0SRyQ\">pic.twitter.com\/lQzSQ0SRyQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Soudal Quick-Step Pro Cycling Team (@soudalquickstep) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/soudalquickstep\/status\/1468188835087622152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async data-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly proud and happy to have agreed to a new deal with Deceuninck \u2013 Quick-Step,\u201d Cavendish said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne year ago, when I came to the team, I did not hide my admiration for what this team does and how happy I was to be back here. I knew from my first time here that this squad has a unique family feeling, and it is a culture that remains to this day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last 12 months have been phenomenal and the support that I have had from the team and the staff has made me very emotional at times. I am really looking forward to making some more special memories together over the next 12 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Lefevere, the team boss, talked in a similar manner: \u201cThe whole world saw what he did this year.
