Den japanske h\u00e6ren benyttet sykler i sin kamp mot allierte\u00a0styrker under den andre verdenskrig. Japanernes invasjon av Malaya og Singapore\u00a0under den andre verdenskrig blir kalt for &laquo;Bicycle Blitzkrieg&raquo;\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I begynnelsen av andre verdenskrig ble Blitzkrieg (fra tysk &laquo;Blitz&raquo; for lyn og &laquo;Krieg&raquo; for krig) en krigsf\u00f8ringsmetode mye brukt av den tyske h\u00e6ren. Blitzkrieg er en angrepsmetode der angriper utnytter overraskelsemomentet. Angriperen angriper fienden med stor og konsentrert kraft med m\u00e5l om \u00e5 sl\u00e5 ut fienden. Invasjonen av hele den lange halv\u00f8ya p\u00e5 1120 km ble gjort p\u00e5 mindre enn 70 dager. Det var general Tomoyuki Yamashita og den 25. styrken som gjennomf\u00f8rte den vellykkede invasjonen over de allierte britiske, australske, indiske og malyanske styrkene. Denne seieren gjorde det slutt p\u00e5 det britiske imperiet i Asia. Bruken av sykkel sees p\u00e5 som en av de viktigste \u00e5rsakene til Japanernes vellykkede invasjon.<\/p>\n<p>Tidliger hadde japanerne brukt hest, men de bestemte seg for \u00e5 bruke sykkel til fordel for hest. Dette tillot soldatene \u00e5 bevege seg raskere med mindre bruk av krefter. Denne mobiliteten f\u00f8rte til at japanerne kunne overraske og forvirre fienden. F\u00f8r invasjonen ble tusenvis av sykler eksportert til Malaya. Under normale forhold kunne lokale styrkene bevege seg fortere enn inntrengere p\u00e5 grunn denne \u00f8delagte infrastrukturen. Denne gangen ble det annerledes, da de japanske styrkene kom p\u00e5 lette sykler som ikke trengte stort mer enn en sti eller sm\u00e5 kjerrevei. Der broer mangle ble improviserte broer benyttet, eller s\u00e5 vadet soldatene med syklene p\u00e5 skuldrene der det lot seg gj\u00f8re.<\/p>\n<p>Syklene viste seg ogs\u00e5 \u00e5 v\u00e6re en utmerket hjelp i transport av utstyr. De britiske soldatene kunne b\u00e6re opp 18 kilo i jungelen, mens de japanske kunne b\u00e6re dobbelt s\u00e5 mye.
