Let us honour the musicians who celebrate life on two wheels.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hawkwind<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Before Motorhead, Lemmy sang about bicycles with psychedelic-rockers, Hawkwind. The lyrics were based on Alfred Jarry\u2019s essay about a time-machine, which lyricist Robert Calvert took to be a euphemism about bicycles. It brings a whole new meaning to being spun-out\u2026<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=HdTFeW8FCto params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/HdTFeW8FCto\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>Pink Floyd<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Hawkwind aren\u2019t the only psychedelic pioneers to become transfixed by the allure of turning cogs and Syd Barrett\u2019s tribute to his trusty bicycle appears on Pink Floyd\u2019s debut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Like all musicians, Barrett is practically minded and appreciates the different people you can meet when travelling on two wheels.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=zOdBeLO8PJI params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/zOdBeLO8PJI\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>David Byrne<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Apart from designing gloriously impractical bike racks for New York City, the Talking Heads frontman wrote a book about his travels with bicycles \u2013 and his relationship with them. As a musician, Byrne embraced tangents and his left turn into cycle advocacy seems to be his latest.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=37IDIUOJA6s params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/37IDIUOJA6s\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>Bono<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Despite his involvement in a serious crash in New York\u2019s Central Park, Bono\u2019s love for cycling wasn\u2019t diminished and it wasn\u2019t long before he was doing what he did best \u2013 raising money and awareness for a charity he was passionate about.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=wldUQvLCRnU params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/wldUQvLCRnU\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>Peter Gabriel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019re probably thinking this article is getting a bit weird \u2013 just what is it about musicians and bicycles? Some of us debate whether it\u2019s safe to ride a bicycle with headphones in and Mr Gabriel is flaunting the most basic health and safety advice by performing songs whilst riding a bike.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=GimLuOUVkxg params=\"enablejsapi=1\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi_webp\/GimLuOUVkxg\/maxresdefault.webp');\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h2><strong>Kraftwerk<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You may be forgiven for thinking there is a conspiracy between the UCI and the music industry, especially when you think that Kraftwerk released the Tour de France song in 1983.
